Concrete Community Fundraiser Photos

This past Saturday, a lot of people got together to skate a ramp inside Asheville Music Hall, drink lots of PBR, view lovely art from skateboarders and friends at Push Skate Shop, rock out at AMH to some music, and bask in the camaraderie of skateboarding and DIY.  Money was raised.  Shirts were sold.  Prints were sold.  Beverages were had.  Punk rock was vibrated through skulls.  Arms were thrown around shoulders in the brotherhood that can only come from something you love.  Anyways, enough of the banter - here's the photos.

Broner Tour 2014

Me and some buds went on a "tour" around NC and SC to do some skateboarding and camping.  It was fun.  Here's some stuff I'm not using in Issue #4 of SkateBoner Magazine.  Look for the #bronertour and #bronertour2014 hashtags on Instagram for more.  Tons more photos will be in Issue #4 so get a copy when it comes out.  Follow @skatebonermag to find out.

Recent Skateboarding Pt. 2

More from the Raleigh/Durham trip a few weeks ago.  The weather was nice this day.

A couple of dudes checking out a few more dudes doing skateboard maneuvers.  Goodbye Durham...

Back in Wilmington, the weather was miserable for about a week and a half until we had a beautiful whisper of crisp fall air and somehow a bunch of people were off work for it.  We dropped our own spot by my apartment and it was tiiiiiight.

Raleigh

Gabe and I took a day trip out to Raleigh to get some clips to finish my video part for Another Skate Shop and we almost got rained out.  Luckily my board survived the puddles and we met up with Nick and rolled around to a few fun spots.  Ending the day with a perfect mini ramp sesh is the way it should always be done.

2013 - Year In Review Part 1 : January - March

So as "year in review" posts get scattered throughout the internet, I decided to hop on the bandwagon and do one myself.  Here goes.

The year started with a January drive out to Topsail Island.  We didn't see anybody anywhere for the most part.

Winter in the deep south allows perfect skate weather in January.  Trent, Alec, and I skated some treacherous terrain by the waterfront in tee shirts in the middle of winter.

Trent Reed - 360 Flip

Alec Chambers - Boneless

A few days later, Wells Shaw did a beer-belly high crooked grind over some bum.

Wells Shaw - Crook

It got cold enough and foggy enough to take this photo of my brother.

February hit it off with a contest at Backdoor Skatepark.  I made a video about it.

I also took photos of the after party.

February came and went.  With the beginning of March, friends and family of Ross Rogers got together and raged out to remember a great person.

I made a trip to Boone and it snowed.  I stayed extra days and took lots of pictures.

February is cold but I still managed to shoot pretty girls in dresses outdoors.

Wells Shaw and I put together an interview for The Manifold Magazine and he killed it.

Switch Kickflip - Raleigh, NC

Lien Tail - The Skate Barn - Hampstead, NC

Hardflip - Wilmington, NC

Backside Lipslide - Wilmington, NC

We skated this thing a whole lot.

Will Smith - Ollie

We did a lot of skating in March.  Trent Reed did an artsy nose manual downtown.

We rediscovered a lot of spots that hadn't been touched in a while and got some photos for fun.  Will's smith grind even got published in Thrasher's Photograffiti section.

Tim Jarman - Wallride

Will Smith - Backside Smith

Well, those were the highlights from January to March.  April - August coming tomorrow.

Night Moves

A good skate session builds on itself.  It starts with a single phone call from one person to another to confirm skateboarding in the near future.  Each of the aforementioned conversationalists calls another person and pretty soon there's 7 or more people at the spot.

This isn't even the first spot we hit.  Tom Hyson likes to go 100 miles an hour and do lines involving nosegrinds and nollie flips.

No matter the size of the group, these two will almost always be found like this.  Alec Chambers and Will Smith, bros for life.

They always enjoy having their photo taken.  Sometimes too much.

Clocking in around 78 mph.

Next spot.  Lurk squad gathering lurk points.   Add Jon P to the list of documented skaters.

Believe it or not this is a land.  Trent Reed nollie-ing out of a wallride.   Then immediately after - hit up the dudes for high fives.

Using technology to document and share faster - this guy on my left.

Using Sparks and Marlboros to get through the night - new homie Jarvis on my right.  This guy wobbled up to us and asked permission to watch.  He kept spreading his arms and mentioning how beautiful the session is.  He asked permission to smoke and I asked permission to take some photos of him.  He obliged and kept telling me how beautiful it was that we were all hanging out and skating together.

I set my camera down to get a beer out of the car.  Never set your camera down around these two without expecting selfies.

Jarvis then asked for permission to drink a beer.  I told him we were drinking too and he lit up with excitement.  "You guys are drinkers!? Welcome to the club!"  I asked what he was sipping on.  Sparks.  "It's got a little kick to it!"

"He's gonna get it this time"

Set my camera down again...  Never a dull moment.

Later on Jarvis.   Next spot.

Massive street grabs commence.  Adam Meyer holds a melon to his feet and rolls away for some jelly legs in the morning.  The guy closing the gym next to this gap was genuinely stoked.  He got a second angle.   That's gonna feel good in the morning.  End of session.  Thanks dudes!

Depression Session

Me and a few of my main bros drove up to Raleigh for a day trip.  Nobody checked the weather.  It was all fine for a few hours until mother nature decided to release a beast of a thunderstorm.  We headed for cover in an empty parking garage.  Everyone got at least one nosegrind photo.  Special thanks to Jed, James, and Dan for showing us a good session.  Also all the other homies that showed up and made the session extra large.

SKATEBONER Magazine

I am looking to get something started and I need everyone's stuff! Keep the stoke flowing with semi-skate-related artwork, new fast music for reviews, tour dates, doodles, video/youtube/vimeo linkage, photos of skating, photos of stuff that's not skating that comes with the lifestyle, write-ups of products good or bad, DIY stuff, and anything else you might think people would be into.  I'm going to try to make this thing semi-legit! A few bucks will also help get it off the ground (stickers and such) and of course you'll get a free mag.  This can be a good opportunity for a business to get some cheap advertising that will be seen by at least a few dudes looking at pictures while taking shits!  Skateboarding has never been so hot and it's wayyyyyyy cooler when people can get together for the love of creativity.

Hit me up at matt@mgmillerphoto.com or on facebook or whatever.
